Membrane switch is an operating system with key function, indication element and instrument surface at the same time. It also known as light touch keypad. It is widely used in daily life, industrial construction and other fields. The following is a summary of the structure and principle of membrane switches.


Structure of membrane switch

The mechanism of membrane switch is according to the order from the surface to the inside, which are panel, surface adhesive, upper circuit, isolation layer, lower circuit, and bottom adhesive. The top layer of the membrane switch is the membrane surface layer, the adhesive layer is attached to the top layer, the adhesive layer is attached to the top circuit layer, the top circuit layer is attached to the bottom circuit layer through the isolation layer, and the back of the bottom circuit layer is the final adhesive layer. The lead wire is usually attached to the upper circuit layer and the lower circuit layer. It is externally connected and has a plug at the end. The mask layer, isolation layer, and circuit layer of the flexible membrane switch are all made up of various flexible membranes with different properties. Its circuit layer, all use polyester film with good electrical performance as the carrier of the switch circuit graphics. It is also divided into hand feeling shrapnel, upper and lower circuits.

The principle of membrane switch

When the panel of the membrane switch is not pressed, the membrane switch is in a conventional state, and its upper and lower contacts are disconnected, and the isolation layer isolates the upper and lower circuits. When the panel of the membrane switch is pressed, the contacts of the upper circuit are deformed downward until they reunite with the lower circuit to make the circuit open. When the finger is released, the contacts of the upper circuit bounce back and the circuit will be broken, and the circuit will trigger a signal.
